Airtel Tanzania Alerts Customers on Fraud Prevention Measures

Airtel Tanzania is urging its customers to stay cautious against mobile money fraud, which has been on the rise through deceptive messages and calls. Scammers often send messages from unknown numbers, asking individuals to send money as contributions as well as claiming to offer services like spiritual healing.

In response, Airtel Tanzania is reminding customers not to send money to unfamiliar numbers without verifying with the intended recipient first to avoid falling victim to mobile fraud.

Speaking at the Airtel Tanzania headquarters recently, the Corporate Communications Director at Airtel Tanzania, Beatrice Singano emphasized that official communication from the company will only come through the number 100.

“Customers should be cautious of calls or messages from any other numbers pretending to be Airtel representatives. Airtel will only contact you through 100. We do not use any other numbers to communicate with our customers,” she explained.

She further detailed that “Many Tanzanians become mobile fraud victims after receiving messages from new numbers telling them to send money and they end up thinking they are communicating with someone they know. We urge our customers to confirm before making any transactions.”

Furthermore, Singano strongly advised that customers to keep their four-digit PIN secret and never share it with anyone, even those they trust. She said that fraudsters can misuse this information to access accounts and make unauthorized transactions.

“The PIN is strictly confidential and should only be known and used by the customer. Sharing it with anyone, even those close to you, increases the risk of it being misused,” she shared.

Singano further explained that Airtel Tanzania remains committed to protecting its customers and encourages everyone to stay informed, report suspicious activities, and safeguard their mobile money accounts.

“When a customer’s phone is stolen, we advise them to do the following immediately; report the incident to the police and also report any suspicious numbers by sending them to 15040. Customers should also check all phone numbers registered under theirNIDAIdentification number by dialing *106# to ensure security. This helps identify any unauthorized numbers linked to their identity, preventing potential misuse,” she hinted.
