In efforts to advance clean energy campaigns in the country, university students from four institutions have come together to facilitate the dissemination of education and information on clean energy to students and the general public.
Under the leadership of **Taifa Gas Clean Cooking Unit**, students from universities in Dar es Salaam, Statistics, Water, and Land have formed a club called **
“Interuniversity Clean Cooking”**, aimed at increasing awareness among university students about the benefits of using clean cooking energy, particularly **Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)**.
Additionally, the club seeks to educate students on **safety measures, proper usage, and maintenance of LPG cylinders**, which are the most commonly used energy source among university students.
Speaking at the launch event held at the Statistics grounds in Dar es Salaam, **Kinondoni District Education Officer Mutundi Nyamohanga**, representing the District Commissioner **Saad Mtambule**, commended **Taifa Gas** for promoting clean energy campaigns in the country, especially by targeting university students.
*”This is a major step in building a generation of young people who understand the importance of clean cooking energy for their health, community development, and environmental protection.
That is why I applaud Taifa Gas for this crucial initiative. Your contribution is not only economic but also social,”* said Mutundi.
He added that the newly launched club will also help expand a network of student ambassadors advocating for clean energy use in communities and various institutions.
**Angellah Bhoke**, Manager of the **Clean Cooking and LPG Adoption Unit at Taifa Gas** and coordinator of the club, stated that Taifa Gas remains committed to leading clean energy campaigns in the country, in line with **President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiative** to relieve women from the burden of firewood use.
*”Through this club, I believe we will continue providing **LPG safety training** to students, especially first-year students and those from other universities.
We will also engage other stakeholders to support the club and its objectives,”* said Bhoke. Last year, Taifa Gas launched a **modern gas shop** for students residing in **Changanyikeni** to provide them with affordable clean energy.
According to Bhoke, the shop has greatly assisted students in accessing gas. *”We are pleased that our **Campus Shop in Changanyikeni** continues to fulfill its goal of reaching all students in Changanyikeni and surrounding areas at affordable prices.
While the general public pays **23,000 Tanzanian shillings** for a 6kg gas refill, Changanyikeni students pay only **20,000 shillings**,”* Bhoke explained.
She added, *”This initiative has helped many students access gas conveniently and improve their health.
Additionally, Taifa Gas offers a **home delivery service** for students who lack time, particularly in Kinondoni District—thanks to our investment in a fully modern shop in Changanyikeni, dedicated to serving students at low costs.”*
