Ride-hailing platform Bolt Tanzania and the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), together with representatives from the Tanzania Traffic Police, held a high-level stakeholder meeting to address regulatory and compliance issues affecting the ride-hailing sector and explore solutions to support sustainable growth and inclusion.
During the meeting, Bolt presented its 2026 market strategy, which includes plans to grow its driver and rider base by about 40 percent, launch operations in Zanzibar, and expand into more mainland cities. The company said it currently operates in eight cities across Tanzania, including Mwanza, Morogoro, Mbeya, and Tanga.
To support sector growth and improve driver inclusion, Bolt said it is ready to work with regulators to simplify access to commercial licensing requirements. This includes exploring a joint “Drive to Compliance” campaign aimed at raising awareness, easing the regularisation process, and encouraging safe and lawful participation in the sector.

Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager of Bolt East Africa, said the company seeks closer cooperation with regulators to unlock value in the mobility ecosystem while ensuring compliance, fairness, and structured regularisation.
Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Head of Regulatory and Policy Africa at Bolt, said the engagement reflects the company’s commitment to transparency and evidence-based policy dialogue, adding that structured collaboration can support regulatory integrity, fair pricing, and smooth operations across regions.
Acting Director at LATRA, Halima Lutavi, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to balanced regulation that safeguards safety, compliance, and fairness while supporting innovation in the sector.
Discussions also covered API integration, real-time licence verification access (TRI), CBD access for bodaboda operators, enforcement of regulatory levies, and measures to curb offline trips to enhance safety and strengthen revenue protection.
Both sides agreed to continue structured quarterly engagements and collaborative driver sensitisation efforts to ensure regulatory clarity and long-term stability in Tanzania’s evolving mobility sector.
