SBL, NCT Bring Learning for Life to Arusha Youth

Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), in partnership with the National College of Tourism (NCT), has officially launched the second phase of the Learning for Life program at NCT Arusha Campus, expanding a collaboration that began in Dar es Salaam in September 2024.

The Arusha intake will enroll over 150 young people to receive practical, demand-led training directly linked to employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, and bars across the northern tourism circuit.

This phase follows the success of the first cohort in Dar es Salaam, where 100 students graduated in May 2025. The Arusha rollout is designed for scale and impact, with SBL investing in a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) model for NCT instructors. This will allow the college to independently deliver future cohorts and ensure a reliable pipeline of job-ready youth for Tanzania’s hospitality and tourism industry, a key driver of national economic growth.

The program combines classroom learning with hands-on practice and structured industry attachments. Students will also benefit from Diageo Bar Academy content covering bar operations, mixology, and customer service, along with essential life skills such as communication, leadership, and personal branding. The result is a cohort of young people who are professionally and socially prepared to raise service standards and deliver memorable guest experiences from day one.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Florian Mtey, Principal of NCT, highlighted the program’s transformative impact, stating:
“This program has opened new doors for our students. It goes beyond classroom theory by taking them into real-world environments, boosting their confidence and preparing them to meet the expectations of hospitality employers. We are proud to continue this partnership with SBL here in Arusha.”

In addition, NCT announced that a short-term training program under the Learning for Life initiative will run from 22 September 2025 to 2 November 2025. All training costs will be fully covered by Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), while students will cover their own accommodation, meals, and transport.

Applicants are required to submit their applications before 16 September 2025. Application forms are available on the college website: www.nct.ac.tz or at NCT campuses in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and Mwanza.

Applicant requirements include:

·         Must be Tanzanian.

·         Must provide an introduction letter from the local government authority/village or employer.

·         Must be between 15 – 35 years old.

·         Must be in good health.

·         Must hold a Certificate or higher qualification in Hospitality or Tourism.

Christopher Gitau, Commercial Director of Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), reinforced the company’s commitment, saying:
“At SBL we believe that investing in young people is investing in the future of our communities. Through Learning for Life, we are not only imparting technical skills but also nurturing leadership, entrepreneurship, and the ability to contribute to Tanzania’s hospitality and tourism growth story.”

The Learning for Life program is part of SBL’s broader social impact agenda, Spirit of Progress, reflecting its long-term commitment to community investment, capacity building, and youth empowerment. By expanding to Arusha, the program will create new pathways for employment and further strengthen Tanzania’s hospitality and tourism sector.
