Today, Vodacom Tanzania held its annual general meeting for the financial year ended March 31, 2025. The financial and operational results presented in the AGM showcased robust growth, strategic investments, and continued commitment to its purpose of empowering individuals, protecting the environment, and upholding trust.

During the year, Vodacom’s service revenue surged by 20.5% to TZS 1.5 trillion, driven by strong customer growth and increased uptake of its services, in particular M-Pesa and data services. Net profit after tax rose by 69.4% to TZS 90.5 billion, supported by cost efficiency initiatives that yielded TZS 59 billion cost savings. The company added 3 million new customers, closing the year with 22.6 million users. M-Pesa revenue grew by 29.3%, with transaction value up 33.8% year-on-year. Smartphone penetration increased by 33.4%, enhancing access to digital services. Additionally, 471 new 4G sites were deployed, including 126 rolled out in the underserved areas in collaboration with the government through UCSAF.
Vodacom’s revenue growth was underpinned by innovative services in M-Pesa in collaboration with our partners. These services included M-Koba, a group savings platform that serves more than 1.3 million customers, and M-Wekeza, a mobile wealth management product that attracted nearly TZS 25 billion in deposits within months of launch. Additionally, the digital payment platform “LIPA kwa simu” processed over TZS 1 trillion monthly, while short-term loans and Songesha overdrafts disbursed over TZS 3 trillion, supporting customers and merchants across Tanzania. Another growth pillar, mobile data revenue, also grew by 21.6%, supported by increased smartphone usage and network investment.
“Our performance this year reflects the strength of our strategy and our unwavering commitment to connecting Tanzanians to a better future. Through innovation and partnership, we are bridging the digital and financial divide,” said Philip Besiimire, Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director.
Vodacom’s purpose-driven strategy continued to transform lives through technology. With women making up over half of M-Koba users, this product reinforces the company’s role in women’s economic empowerment. Additionally, M-Wekeza marked a milestone in democratizing wealth creation and promoting broader financial inclusion.
“As we celebrate 25 years of positively impacting lives in Tanzania, we remain focused on delivering sustainable growth and purpose-led transformation. Our results affirm the trust our customers and shareholders place in us,” said David Tarimo, Vodacom Tanzania’s Board Chairman.
Looking ahead, Vodacom anticipates a stable regulatory environment and will continue investing in network expansion, customer experience, and digital inclusion. The company reaffirms its commitment to partnering with the government to improve living standards through connectivity services and access to financial services across Tanzania.
