Airtel Money and AMCOS Partner to Strengthen Financial Inclusion for Farmers in Tanzania

Mtwara, September 24, 2025 – Airtel Money Tanzania has partnered with the Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society (AMCOS) to facilitate secure payments for farmers through mobile money. The collaboration focuses on ensuring that farmers, many of whom are based in rural areas, no longer face the challenges of handling cash or traveling long distances to access financial services.

For smallholder farmers, the ability to receive payments directly on their phones brings security, transparency, and independence. Farmers can track their income, make purchases from input suppliers, and plan for their households with greater confidence by replacing cash transactions with digital payments.

Speaking about the partnership, Airtel Money Director Andrew Rugamba said, “This partnership is giving farmers the dignity of financial access. Through Airtel Money, they will have a safe and reliable way to receive their earnings and use them without delay. Financial inclusion empowers farmers to take control of their resources, invest in their farms, and support their families with greater ease.”

AMCOS representatives also welcomed the move, highlighting its impact on farmers’ day-to-day lives. “This partnership reduces the risks and burdens our farmers have faced for years. They now have a system that not only protects their income but also allows them to participate in a more modern, cashless economy,” said one official.

The initiative also reflects a broader commitment to empower rural communities, especially women and youth, who form a large part of Tanzania’s agricultural workforce. By embracing mobile money, these groups gain access to services that were once out of reach, from safe savings to transparent transactions that build trust with suppliers and buyers.

Financial inclusion is about unlocking opportunities for communities that drive Tanzania’s economy. The Airtel Money–AMCOS partnership is a step toward creating a future where farmers are not left behind, but instead equipped with the tools they need to thrive.
