THE Media Institute of Southern Africa, Tanzania Branch (MISA-TAN), has urged journalists in the country to continue to uphold the ethics of their profession and not accept interference from anyone in their relationship with the public.
The statement was made today, November 27, 2025, by MISA-TAN Chairman Edwin Soko, while delivering a speech at the opening of a peace journalism training course involving 100 journalists from various regions.
Soko said journalists are an important bridge connecting the Government and the citizens, so they should continue to be on the front lines to maintain peace, stability and solidarity in the country.
“The media is a major pillar of national security. We as journalists will not accept being swayed, swayed or directed by anyone with the aim of alienating us from the people. We will continue to uphold ethics, professionalism and patriotism,” said Soko.
He mentions the October 29 incident.

In addition, he said that what happened on October 29 has saddened all people, and even the media industry was affected by the loss of their loved ones’ lives, injuries and loss of work equipment, while requesting the Ministry of Interior to continue to protect the peace of the country as well as to assure journalists of protection and security during their duties.
“Tanzanian journalists are patriots and not traitors and we will continue to do our work based on professionalism and ethics, and we support our President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her statement that now is the time to build unity, solidarity and love and we will continue to write news to promote peace in the country,” said Soko.
Training increases professionalism
In addition, he mentioned the benefits of the training, that journalists are being built professionally and with great ability to write news that promotes peace, reduce inflammatory and misleading information, analyze news that incites conflict, and write news that promotes unity, peace and national solidarity.
Government promises protection
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Dennis Lazaro Londo has commended MISA Tanzania for providing this Peace Journalism training, saying it is very important in strengthening peace in the country.
He said the training was provided at a timely time when the nation is in dire need of journalists, having gone through a difficult period due to the events of October 29, by providing them with accurate information that protects and strengthens the peace of the country.
“The Tanzanian Mass is a loyal partner to the government even in the times it has gone through, and that is the patriotism we want for the interests of our nation,” said Londo.

He said journalists have a responsibility to protect peace, stability and unity, while commending the media for providing much information emphasizing peace through religious leaders and the Police Force.
“Peace is very important, without peace it is difficult to do anything, so this media industry is very important in maintaining the peace of the country,” he added.
In addition, he has promised that the Ministry will continue to protect the safety of journalists and all their equipment, while they are carrying out their duties.
