· TBL and city leaders unite to protect Dar es Salaam’s water systems
· Clean up initiative shows action behind sustainability commitments and community responsibility
· Partnership drives visible environmental impact where business meets communitystep that reflects shared responsibility for water and urban health
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Thursday 26 March 2026: Tanzania Breweries PLC (TBL PLC) marked World Water Day through direct action, bringing together city leadership, more than 100 employees, and community stakeholders in a clean-up exercise at its Ilala District.
The initiative focused on restoring the effluent discharge channel, an area that plays a critical role in protecting surrounding water systems. Conducted in collaboration with the Mayor of Dar es Salaam City Council, Nurdin Bilal Juma, alongside Ilala Municipal leadership and local councillors, the activity reflects a shared commitment to urban water security and public health.
Led by Neema Temba, Corporate Affairs Director of Tanzania Breweries Limited, the exercise brought together employees and local authorities to address a real environmental need through hands on action. The company supported the initiative with tools and resources, enabling participants to ensure measurable improvements in sanitation and protect shared water infrastructure.
Speaking during the activity, Neema Temba said the company’s approach to water stewardship is grounded in action and long term responsibility. “Water is at the centre of our business and our communities. We have a responsibility to protect it, within our operations and in the environments where we operate. This initiative reflects how we work with partners to deliver practical solutions that support long term water security.”

She also emphasised the importance of linking local action to broader environmental priorities. “Water stewardship requires consistent effort across operations and communities. Activities like this strengthen awareness and demonstrate that real impact comes from partnerships and action on the ground.’
Beyond this local initiative, Tanzania Breweries PLC continues to invest in long term water conservation efforts through partnerships that address both water access and ecosystem protection.

Nurdin Bilal Juma, Mayor of Dar es Salaam City Council, noted that collaboration between the private sector and local government is essential in maintaining urban environmental standards. “Keeping our city clean and protecting our water systems is a shared responsibility. Partnerships like this support our efforts to improve sanitation, safeguard public health, and build a more sustainable city for all residents.”
In collaboration with WWF Tanzania, the company has supported projects to improve water security in areas such as Kibaha, including the installation of solar powered water infrastructure that provides clean and reliable water to surrounding communities. These initiatives also promote sustainable water use and environmental protection through nature based solutions that strengthen local ecosystems and catchment areas.
TBL and WWF are also working together on broader water security efforts in Dar es Salaam, focusing on the protection and restoration of key water sources such as the Msimbazi, Kizinga, and Ruvu river systems, which are critical to the city’s long term water supply.
While the clean up activity is local in scale, it reflects a wider commitment to responsible water management and highlights the role of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges through practical, on the ground solutions.
