Employers Urged to Invest in Workers’ Health

Employers have been urged to make workers’ health and wellbeing a sustained workplace priority, with the government linking healthy employees to higher productivity, fewer workplace accidents and improved business performance.

The call was made on Saturday, October 24, 2026, by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Relations, Evaline Munisi, during the fifth Waajiri Health Bonanza organised by the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) at the University of Dar es Salaam grounds.

Munisi said the annual event should go beyond sports and entertainment to become part of a broader commitment by employers to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of their workforce.

She said the bonanza demonstrated equality in the workplace by bringing employers and employees together on an equal footing to participate in sporting activities and promote healthy lifestyles.

According to the Deputy Minister, investing in workers’ health can help reduce workplace accidents, improve the business environment and contribute to healthier, happier families.

ATE Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Ndomba-Doran said the fifth edition of the bonanza reflected the association’s continued commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles among employees.

She said the event provided an opportunity for employers and employees to exercise together and put into practice the health messages promoted in their workplaces.

Under the theme, “Invest in Health, Unlock Potential: Going the Extra Mile,” Ndomba-Doran urged employers to introduce regular workplace health checks as part of efforts to improve employee wellbeing and productivity.

The event featured various sporting activities and games, including basketball and tug-of-war, bringing together participants in a programme designed to encourage physical activity, teamwork and interaction beyond the workplace.

NMB Bank was the main sponsor of this year’s bonanza, with other sponsors including MCC Label, DP World, AGL, Tabono Consulting, Bumaco Insurance and ICT Pack.

Supporting institutions included the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), the Workers Compensation Fund (WCF), the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Helios Towers, Cool Blue and SGA.

The organisers said the initiative seeks to encourage employers to make employee health and welfare an integral part of workplace culture, recognising that a healthier workforce can contribute to stronger organisational performance.
