Tanzania Pitches Major Investment Projects to London Investors

London, United Kingdom, Thursday 15 October 2026. Tanzanian public institutions presented projects in energy, ports, airports, telecommunications and other sectors directly to international investors in London last week, at a showcase convened by Stanbic Bank Tanzania (a member of Standard Bank Group) on behalf of the Government of Tanzania.

Hon. Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, Minister for Planning and Investment, led a delegation of leaders to the Tanzania Investor Project Showcase. It included the Ministers for Finance, for Minerals and for Communication and Information Technology, Zanzibar’s Minister for Finance, the Commissioners for Public Private Partnerships and for Debt Management, and the heads of the investment authorities of mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Stanbic Bank held the showcase in collaboration with the law firm Clyde & Co, a day before the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, addressed the inaugural Tanzania Investment Forum in London, United Kingdom.

“Vision 2050 asks us to build a USD 1 trillion economy, and Government cannot and should not do that alone. We expect the private sector to provide most of the investment. We have come to London with projects that are ready for partners, and with the people who can answer investors’ questions today,” said Hon. Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, Tanzania’s Minister for Planning and Investment.

The scale of that ambition explains the visit. Vision 2050 aims to make Tanzania an upper middle income country with an economy of USD 1 trillion and income per person of USD 7,000. Government estimates that the country needs investment of about TZS 477 trillion by 2030 and expects about 70 percent of it to come from the private sector.

“Tanzania has become one of the most compelling places to invest in Africa, because reform, stability and a long term plan now point in the same direction. Our clients around the world ask us for a credible pipeline of projects and a clear way to take part. We have brought both to London today.” Elias Ngunangwa, Head of Client Coverage, Corporate and Investment Banking, Stanbic Bank Tanzania.

“Tanzania presents a compelling investment proposition, underpinned by resilient macroeconomic fundamentals, sustained economic growth and a clear long-term development agenda under Vision 2050. The Government’s focus on maintaining fiscal discipline, strengthening the investment climate and accelerating private-sector participation provides a strong foundation for the country’s next phase of growth.

Significant opportunities exist across infrastructure and logistics, energy, mining and critical minerals, telecommunications and digital infrastructure, as well as other productive sectors. The message to international investors is clear: Tanzania is moving from potential to execution, with a growing pipeline of investable opportunities and an increasing openness to global capital, expertise and long-term partnerships. This is an opportune time for investors seeking to participate in Tanzania’s transformation and its ambition to become a globally competitive, industrialised economy,” said Elias.

Investors are already responding. Tanzania registered 915 investment projects worth USD 10.95 billion in 2025, and a further 243 projects worth USD 1.88 billion between April and June 2026, according to the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority.

The projects presented in London build on that momentum in three areas. The first is transport and logistics, where Tanzania is growing as the trade gateway for East, Central and Southern Africa. The port of Dar es Salaam handled a record 33.71 million tonnes of cargo in the 2025/26 financial year, an increase of 21.5 percent, according to the Tanzania Ports Authority. Cargo in transit to neighbouring countries rose by 17 percent to 14.61 million tonnes, and more than half of it was bound for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ports and airports authorities both presented projects.

The second is energy. Installed generation capacity has reached about 4,646 megawatts following the inauguration in August of the 2,115 megawatt Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, according to the Ministry of Energy, and Tanzania holds more than 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. TANESCO and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation set out where partners can take part in transmission, distribution and gas.

The third is mining. The sector contributed 11.9 percent of national output in the first nine months of 2025, and mineral exports rose by 31.1 percent to USD 5.4 billion in the year, according to the Ministry of Minerals. Government has issued 454 licences for critical minerals such as graphite and nickel since July 2025 and wants more processing done in Tanzania, which opens the way to new industries.

“Stanbic is well positioned to connect Tanzania’s priority projects to diverse pools of capital, spanning commercial lending, capital markets, development finance institutions, insurers and export credit agencies. The London showcase provided a long-awaited platform for investors and broader market participants to hear directly from project owners on specific opportunities, while gaining greater visibility of the wider pipeline of investable projects emerging across Tanzania. This direct engagement is critical in bridging the gap between strategic national priorities and the capital required to bring them to fruition.” Sarah Mkiramweni, Head of Investment Banking, Stanbic Bank Tanzania

Each institution presented in a session, so that investors could question the people responsible for delivery and register their interest in specific projects.

Over the past five years, Stanbic has deployed more than USD 1 billion in development finance in Tanzania, supporting infrastructure, energy and trade. Euromoney has named it Best Investment Bank in Tanzania for six consecutive years, and the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange in the past has recognised it as the best custodian bank. As part of Standard Bank Group, Stanbic connects Tanzanian institutions with capital and expertise across Africa and around the world.

“We serve investors who are entering Tanzania, and we work with Government and public institutions to bring the right partners to their projects. Today we did both in one room, and we will keep doing so until these projects are built. Tanzania is our home, and we drive her growth,” said Elias Ngunangwa.
