Thursday 13 August 2026, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Coca-Cola Kwanza has received a United Nations Business Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Award 2026 from the Global Compact Network Tanzania in recognition of its contribution to advancing SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
The award celebrates a project that forms part of the Coca-Cola system’s Africa Water Stewardship Initiative. The initiative represents a nearly USD 25 million investment aimed at helping address critical water-related challenges in local communities across 20 African countries by 2030. In Tanzania, the initiative includes a USD 1.94 million investment focused on restoring the Ruvu Basin, a vital water source for Dar es Salaam’s residents and a lifeline for communities, farms and businesses across eastern Tanzania.
The project is a joint effort between the Coca-Cola system in Tanzania, Global Water Challenge, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Wami-Ruvu Basin Water Board. It aims to deliver tangible impact through initiatives such as tree planting and the uptake of more climate resilient livelihood practices, benefiting at least 2,000 farmers.
The award was presented by the Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT) during the third edition of the Business SDG Awards Gala on 26 June 2026. GCNT recognised the project for its demonstrated commitment to embedding the Sustainable Development Goals into its core business operations and for its role in advancing Tanzania’s 2030 Agenda.

The award-winning project focuses on improving water replenishment through nature-based solutions, restoring catchment areas, and supporting more sustainable water management in the Ngerengere catchment of the Ruvu sub-basin.
The recognition underscores the power of partnerships in tackling complex water challenges and highlights the role of collaborative action in creating a more sustainable and water-secure future for Tanzania.
