Dar es salaam, Tanzania – 5th June 2026: Vodacom Tanzania has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC) to accelerate the digital transformation of cooperative societies across Tanzania through Vodacom’s M-Kulima platform.
The collaboration aims to enhance efficiency, transparency and financial inclusion within cooperatives by enabling their digital onboarding onto the M-Kulima ecosystem, while expanding access to digital and financial services for farmers and cooperative members across the country.
M-Kulima is Vodacom Tanzania’s digital agriculture platform designed to support Cooperatives (AMCOS and Unions) and farmers in digitizing key agricultural processes. These include farmer registration, payments, produce collection, and access to financial services such as loans, savings, insurance, and investments. The platform enhances transparency, operational efficiency, and financial inclusion, while enabling farmers to build digital identity records that strengthen their participation in the formal economy.

To date, the M-Kulima platform has registered over 3.2 million farmers and processed more than TZS 88 billion in payments across over 325,000 farmers, demonstrating strong growth, adoption, and scalability across the ecosystem.
As part of the partnership, Vodacom Tanzania also handed over 35 laptops to TCDC to support digital operations and strengthen institutional capacity.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Vodacom Business Director, Nguvu Kamando, said the initiative reflects Vodacom’s continued commitment to leveraging technology to empower communities and contribute to Tanzania’s socio-economic development.
“At Vodacom, we believe technology can create meaningful change by connecting people to opportunities that improve their lives and livelihoods. Through this collaboration with TCDC, we are equipping cooperative societies with digital tools and financial solutions that will strengthen operational efficiency, improve transparency and empower farmers to participate more effectively in the agricultural value chain,” said Kamando.
Through the M-Kulima platform, cooperative societies will gain access to services including member registration, digital payments, savings and loan services, as well as other tailored digital solutions designed to support sustainable growth and improved service delivery. The collaboration will also focus on capacity building initiatives through training and awareness programs aimed at strengthening digital skills and operational capabilities among cooperative leaders and members.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Benson Ndiege, Registrar of Cooperative Societies and Chief Executive of the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission, welcomed the partnership, noting that digital transformation remains critical in strengthening cooperatives and improving service delivery to members.
“This partnership marks an important step in modernising cooperative operations in Tanzania. By embracing digital solutions, cooperatives will be better positioned to improve efficiency, enhance accountability and create greater value for their members, particularly farmers who play a vital role in our economy.”
The partnership aligns with shared efforts to promote digital and financial inclusion while accelerating technology adoption within Tanzania’s cooperative sector.
