Dar es Salaam, Tanzania –The 12th Basketball Tournament of Chinese Enterprises takes place Tuesday, 19 to Sunday, 24 August 2025, at the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Upanga. Organised by the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania, the event brings together Chinese businesses operating in the country for a week of sport, camaraderie, and cross-cultural exchange.

The tournament is more than a sporting fixture. It serves as a platform for informal relationship-building between business leaders, employees, and communities the kind of soft diplomacy that strengthens trust and lays the groundwork for deeper economic cooperation.

Chinese enterprises have become an increasingly visible part of Tanzania’s economic landscape. In sectors such as infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, energy, and trade, their investments help create jobs, introduce new technologies, and strengthen supply chains. While large-scale projects often capture headlines, events like this tournament quietly nurture the relationships behind long-term partnerships.

“This tournament is more than just a celebration of sport. It is a celebration of community. It brings together business leaders, professionals, and families in a way that builds trust, strengthens relationships, and reflects the values we all share, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance,” said Ester Manase, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Stanbic Bank Tanzania.

Stanbic Bank Tanzania is among the sponsors of this year’s tournament, continuing its strategic support for platforms that foster inclusive business ecosystems. The bank plays a key role behind the scenes in helping Chinese companies navigate the Tanzanian market.

Through its dedicated Chinese Desk, Stanbic offers Mandarin-speaking staff and culturally informed financial services tailored to the needs of Chinese enterprises. These include trade finance, foreign exchange services, and cross-border investment support.

Beyond supporting Chinese enterprises, Stanbic Bank also assists Tanzanian businesses seeking to engage with China for sourcing and trade, thereby fostering two-way economic relationships.

This collaboration aligns with Tanzania’s broader economic vision. Government policies aimed at attracting investment and supporting private sector growth have created a business-friendly environment where international partnerships can thrive. Chinese companies continue to respond to that call, while institutions like Stanbic bridge the gap to ensure those relationships are productive, equitable, and sustainable.

As teams take to the court this week, the competition will celebrate far more than athletic skill. It will showcase the shared values, trust, and long-term aspirations of the Chinese and Tanzanian business communities—a quiet but powerful symbol of partnership in action.
