Digital mobility gains ground as Dodoma’s daily movement changes

RAPID urban growth in the capital city Dodoma, is driving increased demand for digital transport and delivery services as residents, businesses and public institutions seek faster and more efficient ways to move people and goods across the city.

The continued expansion of government offices, businesses, residential neighbourhoods, educational institutions and commercial centres has made mobility an increasingly important part of daily life and economic activity in Dodoma.

For many residents, getting around the city is no longer simply about travelling from one place to another. Reliable transport is becoming essential for reaching workplaces, attending classes, delivering goods, meeting customers and accessing public services.

The growing demand coincides with Tanzania’s expanding digital economy. By March 2026, the country had recorded more than 111 million telecommunications subscriptions and approximately 58.9 million internet subscriptions, providing a strong foundation for app-based services in transport, delivery, mobile payments and e-commerce.

As smartphone use increases, digital platforms are changing how people access transport and delivery services, enabling users to book rides and send parcels through mobile applications.

Among the companies expanding in Dodoma is Maxim, an app-based transport and delivery platform offering car, bajaji and delivery services through a single application.

The company says the city’s rapid growth is creating greater demand for technology-driven mobility solutions.

“Maxim is focused on making everyday movement simpler for customers while also creating more order opportunities for drivers and riders. As Dodoma continues to grow, people need practical digital tools that help them move, send items and connect with services more efficiently,” said Frankline Foy of Maxim Tanzania.

Transport analysts say app-based mobility services are increasingly supporting more than passenger travel. Small businesses are using delivery platforms to serve customers more efficiently, while households rely on digital services to transport groceries, documents and parcels.

The platforms are also creating additional business opportunities for drivers and riders operating cars, bajajis and motorcycles by connecting them with customers through digital technology.

As Dodoma strengthens its position as Tanzania’s administrative capital and an emerging commercial hub, demand for efficient mobility solutions is expected to continue rising.

While app-based services are unlikely to replace conventional transport systems, they are becoming an increasingly important part of the urban transport ecosystem by improving access to transport and delivery services and supporting the city’s expanding digital economy.
