Amref Tanzania Boosts Autism Care Services‎

During the commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, themed “Put Hope on Their Faces: Celebrate Diversity,” Amref Health Africa partnered with the Ministry of Health Tanzania to raise awareness and strengthen services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

‎Through the Shining a Light on Autism Project, Amref is building the capacity of healthcare workers in Occupational Therapy to enhance early identification, management, and care for children with ASD.

‎The event, held at Mirembe National Mental Hospital, was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health, Amref Tanzania, and Mirembe Hospital with support from NBC Tanzania. It brought together healthcare providers and beneficiaries to mark the day and promote greater understanding of autism in the community.

‎Speaking at the event, Dr. Dan Bwana emphasized the importance of partnerships in advancing inclusive health services. He noted that continued support from NBC Tanzania is enabling Amref to equip frontline health workers with essential skills, helping to build equitable, inclusive, and community-led healthcare systems that ensure no child is left behind.
