Samia begins official visit to Angola to deepen bilateral ties

President Samia Suluhu Hassan departed Tanzania on Friday for a two-day official working visit to Angola at the invitation of President João Lourenço, in a trip aimed at strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

During the visit, President Samia and President Lourenço will jointly inaugurate the Julius Kambarage Nyerere Referral Hospital in Luanda. The ceremony is expected to be attended by members of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s family, led by Mama Maria Nyerere, in recognition of his pivotal role in Africa’s liberation struggles.

Samia is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Lourenço to discuss ways of expanding cooperation in key sectors and advancing issues of mutual interest between Tanzania and Angola.

As part of her programme, President Samia will attend a fundraising gala dinner organised by the spouses of African heads of state. The initiative seeks to raise funds for social and economic programmes that support the empowerment of women and young people across Africa.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the visit underscores the shared commitment of Tanzania and Angola to further strengthen their historic partnership, built during the struggle for the liberation of southern Africa and sustained through decades of close diplomatic cooperation.
