Stanbic Tanzania Marks Earth Day With Blue Roots Tree Planting Drive

  • Tree planting supports cleaner air, stronger communities, and long-term environmental resilience in Tanzania.
  • Expanding green spaces while contributing to sustainable urban and community development.
  • A growing commitment to protect natural resources while supporting Tanzania’s future.

Stanbic Bank Tanzania has launched of its Blue Roots campaign, a continent-wide initiative under its parent company, Standard Bank Group aiming to plant one million trees across Africa in recognition of the Group’s one million business clients.

As part of this initiative, Stanbic Bank Tanzania has committed to planting 50,000 trees across the country.

The launch took place at the bank’s Head Office in Dar es Salaam yesterday, where leadership and staff led a tree planting exercise, reflecting the Bank’s continued commitment to responsible growth and environmental stewardship.

For over 30 years, Stanbic Tanzania has been part of the country’s socio-economic journey, supporting businesses, enabling trade and contributing to national development. The Blue Roots campaign builds on this legacy by linking economic progress with environmental sustainability.

By planting one million trees across the continent, the initiative recognises the role businesses play in shaping Africa’s future while supporting the ecosystems that sustain that growth.

Over the past five years, the bank has planted a total of 102,850 trees in Tanzania to create lasting value by improving shared spaces and supporting environmental awareness at community level.

Tree planting contributes to cleaner air, improved soil health and stronger protection of water sources and supports the creation of greener and healthier environments for communities.

Through the Blue Roots campaign, Stanbic Tanzania is encouraging wider participation from businesses and communities to help build a more sustainable future.

Beyond environmental initiatives, Stanbic Tanzania continues to invest in community development through its CSI and ESG programmes, with a focus on education, health, the environment, financial education and community support. These efforts reflect a broader commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch, Omari Mtiga, Head of Personal and Business Banking Stanbic Bank Tanzania, said, “For over 30 years, Stanbic has grown alongside Tanzania, supporting businesses and contributing to the country’s progress. The Blue Roots campaign reflects our commitment to continue building growth that also protects the environment and creates long term value.”

Annette Nkini, Specialist, Sustainability and ESG Performance, added, “Tree planting is one of the ways we invest in communities and the future. Through our programmes, we aim to deliver impact that supports both people and the environment in a practical and meaningful way.”

The Blue Roots campaign will continue across Tanzania, bringing together employees, clients and communities in a shared effort to support environmental sustainability while reinforcing the country’s development journey.

The bank says it remains committed to contributing to a future where economic progress and environmental responsibility move forward together.
