Tanzania makes historic Miss Supranational  debut, eyes global tourism spotlight

Tanzania has made a historic entry into one of the world’s leading international beauty pageants after officially sending its first-ever contestant to the Miss Supranational competition, a move expected to boost the country’s tourism, cultural diplomacy and creative economy.

Tracy Nabukeera departed for Poland this week to represent Tanzania at the Miss Supranational 2026 pageant to be held on July 31, marking the country’s maiden appearance in the global competition. The development is being viewed as a significant milestone in expanding Tanzania’s international visibility through the creative industries.

Speaking during a farewell ceremony organised by Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle in Dar es Salaam, Senior Arts Officer Abel Ndaga, representing the Executive Secretary of the National Arts Council (BASATA), said the government fully supports Tanzania’s participation, describing it as an opportunity to showcase the country’s identity, culture and talent on the global stage.

“We have come to hand over the national flag to Tracy because she is representing Tanzania in Poland. We believe she will perform well and make the country proud,” Ndaga said.

He called on Tanzanians to support the contestant throughout the competition by voting for her, saying public participation would strengthen her chances of bringing international recognition to the country.

Ndaga said the beauty and creative sector continues to play an increasingly important role in the national economy by creating employment, generating incomes and contributing tax revenue, noting that the government remains committed to supporting artists and other creative industry stakeholders.

“The arts are not only a source of entertainment but also a driver of economic growth. Through the creative sector, many young people earn livelihoods while contributing to national development,” he said.

Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle founder Millen Magesa described Tanzania’s debut at Miss Supranational as a landmark achievement that opens a new chapter in promoting the country’s tourism, culture and the potential of young Tanzanian women through international platforms.

She said Tracy will compete not only as a beauty queen but also as a tourism and cultural ambassador carrying the aspirations of millions of Tanzanians.

According to Magesa, participation in the pageant will also inspire more young women to pursue opportunities in the creative industries while demonstrating that talent, confidence and discipline can open doors to international success.

She noted that global beauty pageants have increasingly evolved into platforms for cultural exchange, tourism promotion and women’s empowerment, making Tanzania’s participation an important step in strengthening the country’s international profile.
