UNGUJA: Property and infrastructure developer Floton Africa has reinforced its commitment to community development by donating Sh30 million towards the establishment of a specialised Bone Marrow and Treatment Centre at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital.
The donation supports a nationwide fundraising initiative aimed at improving access to advanced treatment for patients with sickle cell disease and those requiring kidney transplants.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Floton Africa Director Swapna Brahmaroutu said the company considers healthcare investment an integral part of sustainable development.
“At Floton Africa, we believe creating lasting value means investing not only in infrastructure but also in people’s wellbeing. We are proud to support this important initiative, which will help expand access to quality specialised healthcare for Tanzanians,” she said.

South Unguja Regional Commissioner Hamida Mussa Khamis welcomed the contribution, describing it as an example of how private sector investment can complement government efforts to improve public services.
She noted that Benjamin Mkapa Hospital has become a referral centre offering specialised services that were previously unavailable in the country, benefiting residents from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
The Regional Commissioner urged more investors operating in the region to support the campaign, which will conclude with a national fundraising gala in Dodoma on July 11.
Floton Africa, which has ongoing investments in Zanzibar’s Paje area, said the donation reflects its wider corporate social responsibility agenda focused on healthcare, education, environmental conservation and community empowerment.
The company said it will continue working with government institutions and other stakeholders to implement initiatives that deliver long-term social and economic benefits for Tanzanians.
